Genre Re-design
Final assignment for class PROD 302 (Costume Design Techniques)
Assignment Brief: Acquire a thrifted or second hand blazer and select a design genre. The chosen jacket must be then transformed into a garment that would fit a world of your chosen genre. The jacket can end up as any kind of garment, but at least three different sewing techniques from the class must be utilized in its reconstruction.
My genre was Retro Futurism and my second hand Blazer was XL Tweed. The concept I wanted to execute was to re-imagine Molly Ringwald’s prom dress from Pretty in Pink through a futuristic lens, combining new and old textiles and recycling as much as possible from my jacket (just like how her character in the movie recycled old dresses in order to create the iconic and unconventional dress she wore).
